Philadelphia American Revolution Conference

This is a reproduction of Benjamin Franklin's print shop.

Neat story...back in the days when printing was still done manually, letters and symbols were kept in a case.  The case was organized in a way that each letter, number, or symbol had its own specific place.  This was so the printer didn't have to rummage to find what he needed.  Printers would keep certain types of letters in the upper parts of the cases and other types of letters in the lower parts of the case.  Hence the terms "upper case letters" and "lower case letters".
