Social Studies 4/28 - 5/2

6th Grade:

6th graders will begin working on their research paper.  We will be working on this for the next three weeks.  We won't have any quizzes or tests while we are working on the paper.


7th Grade:

7th graders will begin Ch. 17 this week.  No quizzes or tests this week.  Ch. 17 materials can be accessed HERE (link).  The folder is incomplete.  I will be adding to it throughout the week.  

Also, I will be having a parent meeting for the Washington DC trip that is being planned for next spring.  The meeting will be Tuesday at 5:30pm (after track practice) in my classroom.  You will not have to commit to anything at the meeting as the purpose is just to get information to you.  The meeting should last about 45 minutes.  I hope to see you there!

Social Studies 4/22-4/25

6th Grade:

6th graders will be finishing up Section 2 of Ch. 4 this week.  The quiz will be on Friday.  Students can find study resources HERE (link).  Also on Friday, 6th grade students will begin a research paper.  This will take the next three-and-a half weeks.  The final paper will be due on Friday, May 23rd.


7th Grade:

7th graders will be finishing up Ch. 16 this week. The test over Ch. 16 will be on Friday (4/25).  Students can access a study guide HERE (link).  Student study resources can be found HERE (link).  Also, I will have study sessions for students on Thursday, 4/24 at 7am and after school starting at 3:15pm.  Study sessions will last about an hour.  Students will need to bring their study guide.  Study guide should be mostly completed.

Social Studies 4/14 - 4/17

6th Grade:

6th graders will begin working with the Declaration of Independence.  Students will work with partners for the first part of the week and then write two essays on their own.  The quiz over Section 2 from Chapter 4 will be on Friday, April 25th.  This will be a multiple choice quiz.  Student study resources for Section 2 of Chapter 4 can be found HERE (link).  On Monday, April 28th, 6th grade students will begin a multi-week research paper project.  We have also done several writing assignments lately.  Students who have not yet turned those assignments in will need to get them turned in this week.  I will start grading them over Easter break.

7th Grade:

7th graders will be reading a graphic novel in class this week.  The novel is titled Grant vs. Lee:  The Graphic History of the Civil War's Greatest Rivals During the Last Year of the War.  On Thursday, students will take the 16-5 quiz.  This is a matching quiz.  Study resources can be found HERE (link).  We also did a writing assignment last week.  Students will have until Thursday (4/17) to get that turned in.  Lastly, we will be taking a test over Ch. 16 on Friday, April 25th.  Study resources can be found HERE (link).  A study guide for the Ch. 16 test can be found HERE (link).  I will hold study sessions for the test on Thursday, April 24th at 7am and at 3:15pm.  Study sessions will last approximately 1 hour.  Students will need to bring their review sheet (as completed as possible) to the study session.

Social Studies 4/7 -4/11

6th Grade:

6th graders will take the 4-1 quiz on Monday (4/7).  This is a fill-in-the-blank quiz.  Students can find study materials for Section 1 HERE (link).  After taking the quiz, we will start Section 2.  We will be spending a couple weeks on Section 2 as there is a lot of material to cover.  We will also be doing a lot of writing during Section 2.

7th Grade:

7th graders will be taking the 16-4 quiz on Tuesday.  This will be a matching quiz.  Students can find study materials HERE (link).  We will also be starting Section 5 of Ch. 16 next week.  We will be spending a couple weeks on Section 5, so no other quizzes next week (other than the Section 4 quiz).

No quiz tomorrow...

6th grade parents and students -

I am postponing the 4-1 quiz that was scheduled for tomorrow until Monday (April 7th).  We got a little bogged down on a writing assignment and I ended up needing one more day.
